Preparing screen capture-type figures using the Gimp version 1
  1. Determine what size and resolution are required by the journal you are submitting to. For example, 8 inches by 11 inches, 300 dpi.
  2. Open the Gimp. Choose File->New and enter the dimensions and resolution you want.
  3. Take screen captures.
  4. Open each screen capture in the Gimp.
  5. For each screen capture, right-click in the image and choose Select -> All. Then right-click and choose Edit->Copy.
  6. In the large canvas area, right-click and choose Paste.
  7. Next, right-click in the large canvas area and choose Layers -> Layers, Channels, Paths.
  8. In the dialog that opens, right click on the "Floating Selection" and choose "New Layer".
  9. Right click in the same dialog on the new layer and choose "Scale Layer".
  10. Rescale the layer to the size you want by modifying the values in the dialog box that opens (for example, set width and height to 150%).
